Onyx


Onyx was born on October 19th, 2018 and settled into her new home with me on December 23rd, 2018. She is a mixed breed of Boston Terrior and Chuhuahua. She has large ears compared to her tiny body and a loud bark the neighborhood can hear. When Onyx was born, she had all black shiny fur and looked like a mini black teddy bear. As time went by she began to develop a beautiful brindle color all over her body. 
Her name was chosen because of my love for crystals. There are many different types of crystals but the crystal, Onyx worked perfect for her. It is mostly black with spots of brown throughout the surface and is very shiny. The color of the crystal made me even more excited to choose the name for her. The Onyx crystal means to absorb and protect against negative energy. I think the name is great because I combined two things that I love.

Vocabulary:

Brindle: brownish or tawny with streaks of other color

Compare(ed): to look for a similarity or difference 

Bark(s): The sharp cry of a certain animals, such as a dog, fox or seal

Absorb: to take in, or to take control 

Protect: to keep safe from harm or injury

Develop: to grow or become more mature

Grammar Point:

Vocabulary Activity: After reading the meaning of a descriptive story below and reviewing the vocabulary words above. Write your own descriptive story about a person, place or thing. Try to use at least 1 word from the vocabulary list in your descriptive story. 

Descriptive Story:  The purpose of a descriptive story is to describe a person, place, or thing to help the reader imagine the story in their mind. To help us imagine we must pay close attention to the descriptive details through the story. 

Descriptive Adjectives:  A word that describes a quality or feature of a noun/pronoun.

Ex: The tall girl played basketball. (descriptive adjective= tall, noun= girl)

Adjectives Activity- There are multiple adjectives in the descriptive story about Onyx. Identify each descriptive adjective in the story and use the descriptive adjective in your own sentences. There are about six adjectives that can be found thought out the story.

Best & Worst Experiences

The Best & The Worst Thinking back on life, there are always the best, the worst and the most embarrassing experiences we always remember. We all go through experiences that teach us lessons to guide us into future experiences. We have no choice in life to experience different events that happen throughout our lifetime. But, it is up to us to either laugh about it, cry about it, or learn from it, or do all three. One of my best experiences I remember was winning 2nd place at the National Championship College Cheerleading Competition in Disney. I remember anxiously holding hands with my teammates, while bowing our heads and hoping for our name to be called. This was just our second year ever competing in the national competition. Happy to Sad but Always Grateful

(My Grandparents) As we may know life is full of ups and downs and its up to us to make the best of our days living. These last couple months may have been the most emotional times I have been through in my life. My year started off with a beautiful service trip to Havana, Cuba with Molloy's International education program. The opportunity was everything I could have dreamt of. I came home with new friends and connected with the people of Cuba\. Shortly after I returned from the service trip, I went on a girls trip with two friends and my cousin to the Bahamas. This happened to be the time where Covid-19 spiked and began to take over the year. While in the Bahamas we began to see the affects on travel. The resort we stayed in was filled with just a handful of people each day.
